RolePlayGateway?

First of all, The Legend of the Kyuun and The Gods of Airl, isn't my roleplay. It is a NethanielShade creation. It takes place in Airl, a chain of in-the-sky archipelagos where mankind dwells. Ailyn, is the largest, while Adept is the smallest.

The world of Airl. Hundreds of floating islands, just dandy.

The Story: Previously, the Gods had fought ancient demons known as the Kyuun, who came forth when they sensed the corruption and the weakening of human faith in the Gods. These Kyuun and the Gods of Airl had fought in a titanic war for the fate of mankind. After the defeat of the Kyuun, the Gods however, had to return to nurse their wounds. Hundreds of years had passed since that climactic moment, and man has forgotten those Gods once more.

The story is about eleven different mortals chosen by eleven different Gods, as their Eyes. Eyes, are basically the God's assumed vessel, or champion. Each Eye is specifically attuned with the characteristics that their patron God is known for. Each Eye has to walk a specific path belonging to their God, filled with trials and tribulations, varying by multiple degrees from their compatriots. These trials are meant to test the Eye, their connection to their God, and their ability to wield their God's powers. The three types of magic that is utilized in the story are Shapeshifting, Divine Words, and Telekinesis. Each Eye may only have one of the three types of magic, unable to wield the others. The Eyes over time will learn more and more about their Gods, their histories, the world's histories, and perhaps even their futures.

The Reason: NethanielShade's purpose for creating this roleplay, I can only assume, was to explore Modern fantasy. However, he's allowed the writers a free range of expression in terms of creating the story. That's not to say that he doesn't have a plot, he's set the over-arching story in the background, allowing the writers to walk the path that he's laid out. This modern fantasy, isn't exactly like most modern fantasies, since it's not set in your modern-day real world. It's a completely fictional world.

The Difference: Unlike most other stories, each character starts out trying to find himself or herself in their connection with their God. They don't start out with the immediate ability to fully manifest the powers of their Gods, they only start with a sliver of it. Even then, that sliver is what could be called in modern times "a demo," of things to come. That, however, is subject to change as well. The connection with their Gods can be a loose one at times, since a mortal has to deal with an immortal capable of many things, desires, and wills, that ultimately conflict with those of the individual.

The Expectations: Nethaniel doesn't expect writers to drop a line, or an essay. Nor does he wish to enforce a post requirement per day. However, much is expected out of potential roleplayers who wish to be a part of the story. Each writer has to have cohesive thought and organization in their post, which will vary in size. For example, depending on the moment, short concise posts are needed, such as interaction between characters. Other times, a large post perhaps, or medium post will be used during a character's "alone time," or development. Each writer is expected to keep up, as well as stay on track with not only their character's story, but the world story as well. Not to mention, they have to be aware of their surroundings when in-character, so as not to disrupt the flow. As for characters, a little bit of thought and modesty is in order. I admit that this is a fantasy story, and thus characters, are bound to have abilities. However, like I said, you don't start out with all the power, you learn and earn as you go, so to speak. When you first create your character, for those of you who are fairly inexperienced, it is advised that you create a character that is not perfect. Accept the fact, that your characters should be down to earth in terms of ability so that the story can beautifully provide the illusion of reality. From there, however, creativity, and initiative is expected.

Note: There are several spots definitely available, others are up for grabs, because their writers are M.I.A. currently. Stay posted if your God is one of the "maybe" categories. The story is flexible to allow late entries. Since it is in its early stages, don't be daunted, the characters/writers have not been fully locked in yet.

About Me: VindicatedPurpose

A grizzled, rugged, and charming...ahem, okay too much, I agree, one year "regular," on RolePlayGateway. I have a wide range of genre interests, from High Fantasy to Science Fiction, from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion to Bioware's Mass Effect Series and everything in between. When I say everything, I really do mean. I'm interested in entertaining the reader, and myself when I read, write, and reread the story. Most importantly though, I'm interested in the humanity of my characters. I try to fully develop them into three-dimensional beings, worthy of praise, worthy of pity, and worthy of vilification, on part of the reader/audience.

Currently I'm finishing up one of my roleplays, which is the first of a trilogy, the Nebula's Dawn: F.S.S. Salient story. I've begun working on the second arc, which will be better organized than the last. Hopefully garner a large interest like the first one did, but I'm more interested in people who are committed to the story. I've was lucky to find such a group with the very first roleplay that I directed, the Nebula's Dawn story.

As for this story, the Legend of the Kyuun and the Gods of Airl, I posted on behalf of Nethaniel, because I want this story to succeed. Normally, I don't do modern fantasy, because it isn't my forte. However, when I first came upon it, there was just something about it that jumped at me, and told me there was potential in the story. That potential, however, means nothing if it is not utilized to the very zenith. In the end, it all depends on the writers to carry the story. That's just my opinion though, check out our page and judge for yourself whether or not this is worthy of your talents and skills as a writer.

If you have any further questions, you can ask them here, or come to our OOC area. Thanks.
