Look, we've all thoughtlessly put our iPhones into dangerous situations ? on the edge of a sink, right next to a kleptomaniac monkey, on the roof of a moving car, and so on ? ?and had the little gadgets live to tell their tales. But these?strokes of luck are no reason to suddenly start using a modified soup bowl as an iPhone stand.
Daisuke Nagatomo, a partner at design firm MisoSoupDesign, told NBC News that people are so obsessed with their smartphones, that they don't want to put them down, "even while eating." It's their way of staying connected with the world and avoiding feeling lonely.
Nagatomo suggests picturing a guy eating at a restaurant, alone, with chopsticks in one hand and a cellphone in the other. "For some people, that is absolutely the most normal thing to do." But there's one problem, Nagatomo explains: The fella in our example basically needs a third hand to eat properly.
That's why MisoSoupDesign has created the "Anti-Loneliness Ramen Bowl," a bowl which doubles as an iPhone stand, so that you can eat properly while using your iPhone. Yes, there's some tongue-in-cheek silliness to the whole thing, and it doesn't sound like Nagatomo is genuinely suggesting keeping your iPhone on the edge of a soup-filled bowl?? but MisoSoupDesign intends to produce the strange dish anyway.
"The bowl is almost ready for production in the factory," Nagatomo says. "We are aiming mid-April to May for some limited edition bowl distribution through our website, and also in Asia."
There are no details on pricing just yet. ?It might be wise to look into a good iPhone protection plan which covers water ??or soup?? damage while waiting for those to be announced.
